Who knows what really happened here. But, a goose worth of feathers littered the margin of the marsh and some creature has a story to tell. Canada Geese, though common, and in some venues considered a nuisance, are one of my favorite birds. Like chickadees, they’ve only grays, browns, black and white to festoon their plumage but what they do with it is striking; so too are these feathers in a diffused afternoon light, juxtaposed with a tiny white wild flower. They not only tell a story but they create an abstract painting in the grass.
